Operations Management (OM) concerns the design, planning, execution and control of systems and activities directly related to producing goods or providing services. This includes strategic issues such as product and process design, and facility layout, as well as more tactical and operational issues such as production planning and scheduling, inventory management and quality management.
Managing operations is a complex and challenging task due to the current business trends such as globalization, cost control, expanding product variety, and continuous technological innovations. The course will introduce the students to the main concepts, tools and trade-offs in OM decision making.
Students will learn a powerful tool to better understand economic environments: the economic way of thinking. By mastering the logical principles of economic thinking, students will be able to anticipate the behavior of economic agents (consumers, producers, workers, investors, but also their future employers and employees) and, thus, better fulfill tasks in managing positions.
