Juan Carlos Lindo and Rodrigo Aliaga, students in the UP Faculty of Engineering, were selected to participate in Huawei's Seeds for the Future program. This training event, held from August 7 to 14, brought together young talent from all over Peru in an immersive cultural and technological space led by international experts in artificial intelligence, 5G technology, and cloud computing. Over the week, participants took part in activities designed to enhance their knowledge and skills in these areas, while expanding their network of professional contacts among the country’s leading lights in these fields.
This initiative, Huawei's flagship global corporate social responsibility program, selects young talent from around the world for short-term training, competitions, and ongoing cultural exchange and entrepreneurial development activities. The program currently benefits 18,000 students in 141 countries, at least one-third of whom must be women as part of Huiwei’s drive to promote diversity and inclusion in the technology sector.
A transformative experience
The selection process that Juan Carlos Lindo and Rodrigo Aliaga went through was stringent, evaluating both their academic achievements and their experience in technological projects. The two students have excelled in their engineering classes at the UP, which allowed them to be selected from among the thousands of applicants.
“As engineering students at the Universidad del Pacífico, we have had the opportunity, cycle after cycle, both to acquire theoretical knowledge and to apply it in real situations. This combination of practice and theory was key to our preparation and eventual selection,” explained Juan Carlos.
Both students agreed that the program was an intense and enriching experience. During the first week they participated in virtual workshops alongside Huawei experts, from whom they learned about the latest technological innovations. The second stage entailed an in-person immersive experience in Lima, which included talks with Huawei executives and leaders of institutions such as the Ministry of Transport and Communications, as well as cultural activities organized by the Confucius Institute.
"All of this was a great challenge, as we had to manage our time properly because the program's courses coincided with the final exams at the Universidad del Pacífico," noted Juan Carlos. "Efficient time management was essential to successfully balancing both responsibilities," he added.
Comprehensive training at the UP
The robust training provided at the UP has been central to the success of these engineering students in the program. “As an Information Engineering student, the AI course was familiar to me, since the technology taught by Huawei is the same as what we work with in the degree program. This aided my understanding of the topics covered. In addition, the soft skills acquired helped me to interact more easily with the other participants,” said Juan Carlos.
The UP continues to encourage its students to participate in high-impact global initiatives, contributing to their personal and professional growth in an increasingly competitive and connected environment.
